Margaret "June" Thompson

August 22, 1941 - January 8, 2024

Margaret ā€œJuneā€ Thompson, 82, of Waynesboro, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 8, 2024. She was born on August 22, 1941 in Franklin, WV to the late James Arnold Ralston and the late Sylvia Rea (Murphy) Alston.

She enjoyed playing ball with her sister, Sue Ann, and developed her love of reading at a younger age in the form of the magazine Truth Stories. She moved to Virginia in the 60'5, and began working at Mortonā€™s/Con-Agra where she retired after 30+ wears of service. June graduated from Franklin High School and was a member of Glen Kirk Presbyterian Church.

June would travel each holiday season back to Franklin, WV to visit her family. When she would come home for Thanksgiving, she'd always bring a turkey with her, and for Christmas she was always excited to bring a carload of gifts with her as well.

She married Denton Lee Thompson on August 5", 1985, and they proudly purchased a home together on North Bayard Ave in 1988, where they both resided until their deaths.

June enjoyed celebrating any holiday she could, but she was especially fond of Christmas-time. There was no greater joy in her life than seeing her family gather over Christmas together to open gifts and celebrate as a family. She may have fussed about all the wrapping paper, but it was worth every crinkled tear to see the smiles of joy and excited expressions on her family's face.

June loved sending cards to her friends and family for every holiday and kept extra cards just in case a reason came up for her to send one out. Creating and saving memories was always at the front of Junes mind. She followed the newspaper and current events, and made sure to save clippings of any memory she wanted to remember or share with you when she saw you. There was never an occasion that she didn't want to capture, and made sure to carry a camera around wherever she went to be able to do so. She was proud of her photo collection of her family, extended family, and friends, though there was no such thing as extended family to June; if you were good enough for blood, she considered you blood.

June loved going to lawn parties, got excited for the weekend yard sales, and enjoyed going to the local carnival and fairs. June loved reading and watching Westerns, and always dreamed of living on a horse ranch out west. Instead, she got to have her own little farm of countless stray cats, her beloved beagles Mouser and Ladybug, and a few Chester the Squirrels who she fed outside her kitchen window.

One of her favorite yearly traditions was going to The Statler Brothers Fourth of July Celebration at Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton, VA, and gushed about meeting Harold Reid-twice!

June worried about everybody, and didn't make that a secret. She cared deeply about her family and what was going on in their lives. She knew the weather forecast better than you did, even if you lived hours away, and wouldn't be afraid to call you for nothing else than to warn you of an upcoming storm of course, you'd be on the phone with her for an hour after that.

Please extend your prayers and thoughts to those June left behind.
