Marelia Ann Smith
Marelia "Sissy" Ann Smith, 91, of Elkton, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at her home.
She was born on November 23, 1931, and was a daughter of the late Albert and Ethel (Herring)Morris.
Sissy had worked at for K-Mart and was a member of Mt. Olive Brethren Church. She was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Shenandoah Valley Bowlers Hall-of-Fame in 2022.
Sissy was united in marriage on June 11, 1949 to Stanley Smith, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by five children, Neil (Dorenda) Smith of Front Royal, Deborah Smith of Elkton, Stanley E. "Tony" (Nancy) Smith, Jr. of Waynesboro, and Jesse (Linda) Smith of Mathias, WV, Barbara (William) Thornton of Grottoes; a special grandson, Barry (Jennifer Thomas) Herring of Elkton; brothers, Bobby (Terri) Morris of Staunton, Larry (Ann) Morris of Dayton, Sonny Morris of Harrisonburg, and Pete Morris of Elkton; sister, Phyllis Hensley of McGaheysville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive; special friend, Laurie Rice.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie K. Smith; sisters, Sue Hussey, Betty Dofflemyer, and Clairene Lance.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Grottoes.
A service celebrating Sissy's life will be held on Sunday, June 25th at 2 PM at Mount Olive Brethren Church in Pineville, with Pastor Dr. Fred Miller and Pastor Danny Herring officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
