Odell Mae McCrory Smith
Odell McCrory Smith, age 97 of Staunton departed this life for her Heavenly home on Friday May 26, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was the loving daughter of the late Albert McCrory and the late Harriet Gayheart McCrory, born on July 20, 1925 in Augusta County.
On November 22, 1950 Odell would marry the love of her life, Maurice W. Smith with whom she shared a beautiful life with until his passing in June 2016. She was a longtime member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. Her love of reading and learning led to a fulfilling career in education as a teacher and later as a librarian for 30 devoted years. She enjoyed her sudoku books, crafting, bird watching, and traveling. Odell always had a wonderful story to tell and enjoyed sharing her family history. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for her bright smile, warm hugs, and her devotion to her family.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Donnie Landes.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Gloria Landes of Staunton, Shelby Myers also of Staunton, Donna Lihos (Tim) of Verona; brother, William “Bill” McCrory; grandchildren, Mary Craig (Shane), Taulsa Cook (Heidi), Michael Landes (Doreen), Christy Robson (Doug), Carrie Gill (Michael), Camalee Lihos (Devin Frend); great-grandchildren, Jordan Callahan (Scott), Mitchell Craig, Cullan Overbey, Peyton Gill (Kagen Shifflett), Nathan Landes, Jacob Craig, Destiny Craig, Thieron Cook, Conrad Frend; great-great grandson, Ryker Callahan; along with a host of loving extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Shane Craig, Mitchell Craig, Doug Robson, Michael Gill, Tim Lihos, and Taulsa Cook.
