Lynn Flattum
Lynn Starr Flattum, 77, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, of Waynesboro, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 in Charlottesville.
Born on December 3, 1947, in Columbia, North Carolina, to Fred and Minnie Everton, Lynn graduated from Craddock High School in Portsmouth, Virginia, before attending Bob Jones University. She dedicated decades of her career to the Federal Civil Service, retiring as Supervisor of the Medical Transcription Department at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Throughout her tenure, she received numerous commendations for her outstanding dedication and excellence in her work.
Beyond her professional achievements, Lynn had a remarkable eye for design and creativity. She enjoyed interior decorating, possessed a natural artistic talent, and found joy in refinishing and refurbishing antiques. Her love for beauty and restoration extended beyond objects—she poured the same care and dedication into the lives of those she loved.
Most significantly, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, always placing the needs of her family above her own. Her selflessness, kindness, and unwavering support enriched the lives of all who knew her.
A faithful member of Memorial Baptist Church in Staunton, Lynn cherished her church family and her Sunday School classes. Her deep faith and commitment to serving others were evident in the love and care she shared with those around her.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Minnie Everton; her brother, Myron; her sister, Betty; and her grandson, John Reilly Hamp.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Darryl Flattum; her children, Lora Hamp (Mike), Darryl Flattum, Jr. (Amy), and Stanley Flattum; and her cherished grandchildren, Riley and Emily Hamp, Mitchell, Meredith, and Morgan Flattum, and Miranda Flattum. She was also blessed with Sydney, Megan, and Grant Harrell, who held a special place in her heart. Lynn is lovingly remembered by her sister, Ann (Wallace), as well as many extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Following a private graveside service at Augusta Memorial Park, a celebration of Lynn’s life will be held on Friday, March 14th, 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church, 224 Taylor St, Staunton, VA, with Reverend Todd Latham officiating.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Thursday, March 13th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home.
