Luther Tildon "Buck" Sutherland
Luther Tildon “Buck” Sutherland, 78, fell asleep in death May 15, 2023. He was born in Mt. Crawford, Virginia on August 6, 1944, to the late Luther A. Sutherland and Evelyn C. Harlow Sutherland.
He is survived by the love of his life, Faye Price Sutherland, of almost 54 years; his twin sister, Phyllis Vest of Staunton; four nieces, Dana Johnson of Fishersville, Sonya Craig of Staunton, Romanda Sutherland of Staunton and Wanda Sutherland of Afton; three great nieces, Kayla Johnson of Charlottesville, Stormy Sutherland-Wallace, and Lilly Sutherland-Wallace, both of Afton; and one great nephew, Jeremy Johnson of Fishersville; as well as many cousins and extended family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Wilson “Sonny” Sutherland.
In March of 1969, he became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. As such, he spent many years studying and teaching the Bible. He loved seeing others come to know his God, Jehovah.
Luther married Faye in June of 1969 and over the years they were inseparable. Faye always said her husband could do anything. If he saw it done once or if he read how, he could do it. If he could take it apart, he could fix it.
He worked as a floor sander, welder, and an electronic technician, among other things, throughout his career. He enjoyed photography, sketching, and music.
In later years, he loved feeding and watching the birds and other wildlife at the home where he grew up ,and enjoyed tinkering in his shop. He loved his kitties, Lucy and Little Ricki.
Buck had a great big heart and was always willing to help others. He will greatly be missed by his family, many spiritual brothers and sisters, and other friends.
The world will be a different place without him.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 3:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1868 Springhill Road, Staunton, Virginia 24401.
