Lucille Virginia Gilmer Armstrong
Lucille Virginia Gilmer Armstrong went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
She was born July 9, 1940 in the Centerville community of Augusta County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Irene Potter Gilmer.
On September 3, 1960, she married Herbert Norman Armstrong who preceded her in death on September 1,2020.
Lucille was one of five siblings. She is survived by her brother, Frank Gilmer and wife Judy, sister-in-law Yvonne Gilmer, brother-in-law, Eldon Armstrong and wife Sandy. She is preceded in death by siblings Elwood Gilmer, Nancy Gilmer Hyden, and John Gilmer. She is also survived by her five children: Cynthia Armstrong Taylor (Kenny), Melinda Armstrong Gartzke (Kevin), Dale Armstrong (Donna), Gail Armstrong Suter and Amy Armstrong; fourteen grandchildren: Lindsey Nelson (Scott), Joel Taylor, Andrew Taylor, Nathanael Gartzke, Caleb Gartzke (Maegan), Faith Gartzke, Ethan Luke Gartzke, Jared Armstrong, Anna Armstrong, Jacob Armstrong, Brett Suter, Robin Suter, Linden Roper, Eira Roper; and three great grandchildren: Heidi, Levi, and Isaac Nelson.
Lucille had a long and productive life working with her beloved husband Norman on the family farm near Bridgewater. She derived great joy in raising a family and participating in church life activities especially singing in the choir and helping with children's ministry. Lucille had a passion for gardening and baking and was always ready to share the fruits of her labor with family, neighbors and those in need. She has brought love and joy to many through her joyful heart and radiant smile, always ready to pray for anyone. She helped many find their way to a relationship with the Savior to whom she devoted daily worship and service.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 23, 2026 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service in Bridgewater. The casket will be closed.
A service celebrating Lucille's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 24, 2026 at the Summit Church of the Brethren with Pastor Tim Craver and Rev. Brad Huddleston officiating.
Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service of Bridgewater.
