Lois Wayne Hedrick
Lois Wayne Hedrick died on June 12, 2023. She was born on June 15, 2023 at home at Pansy, WV. She was the daughter of Ira and Verda (Shreve) Yokum. She was preceded in death by three brothers all who were veterans: Elton Yokum KIA on Luzon, Philippines 1945 U.S Army WW2, Shirley Yokum, U.S. Army WW2, Paul Yokum U.S. Navy. Preceding her in death in 2012 was her husband, Clarence W. Hedrick U. S. Army veteran of WW2. They were married for 66 years. She was the last member of her immediate family and of the PHS graduating class of 1941.
She is survived by one son, Larry W. Hedrick and wife Vicky. Two Grandchildren Jesse W Hedrick and Valerie Hedrick of Seattle, WA. Two nieces Alicia Reel and husband Mike; their sons Brandon and Brittany, and Matthew and Kim and family all of Petersburg. Linda Barr of Duram, North Carolina and her son John of Florida. Three nephews. Craig Yokum and wife Darlene and children Melody, Garrett, Nathan and Angela all of Petersburg, Alan D Yokum and wife Myra and children Griff and wife Becky Yokum of Petersburg, Gwen Berg and husband Stacey and their children Bailey, Grant, Gracie Bryce and Payton . Brent Yokum and wife Marcie of Petersburg. Also a special cousin Zen and Wife Cindy of Florida.
Her employment began as a clerk at Ebert’s Five and Ten Cents store. She then went to work for Halterman’s Hardware store and Meadows Farms as a bookkeeper until her retirement.
She was an involved and faithful member of Grove Street United Methodist Church supporting it with her talents, especially in the choir and various other ministries of the church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women who met in the NGU (Never Give Up) room.
She enjoyed her life. Family and friends were a priority. There was always a welcome and hospitality with plenty of good food in her home. Although she was a dutiful homemaker she loved the out of doors in all capacities.
She gave her time, talents, and energy to responsibilities of caring for aged parents and friends and family members. She and Clarence also volunteered in working in the Landes Ruritan Club activities.
She remained committed to Jesus to the end.
Family will receive friends Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 6 - 9 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
Funeral service will be Friday, June 16, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Grove Street United Methodist Church in Petersburg with Pastor Larry Hakes officiating.
Interment will be in South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, WV.
