Lillian Vest

Lillian Marie Rudin Vest, 91, of Salem and formerly of Stuarts Draft, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023 in Salem. She was born April 12, 1932 in Waynesboro, daughter of the late Emil Rudin and Odie Bell Harris Rudin.

Lillian was an “at home Mom” who enjoyed crocheting, cross stitch, sewing and reading.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death her son, Lee Murry Vest, Jr.; three brothers, Elmer Rudin, Leland Rudin and James Rudin and three sisters, Shirley Rudin, Hazel Bryant and Nellie “Tippy” Elizabeth Cornielson and Lillian’s life partner, Heber M. Byrd.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Marie Helmick and husband, Scamp Helmick and grandchildren, Amber Marie Dowdy, Afton Elizabeth Dowdy and Austin Lee Dowdy; her son, Keith Jessie Vest and granddaughter, Kirsten Leigh Vest; her sister, Ruby Landes.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 5, 2024 in the Chapel of Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville conducted by Pastor Dennis Bradley. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow in Rankin Chapel Cemetery, Stuarts Draft. Serving as active pallbearers will be Scamp Helmick, Kirk Dedrick, Mark Landes, Joe Landes, David Rudin and Preston Smith.
