Lewis Harold Carwell
Lewis Harold Carwell, 95, husband of Laura Simmons Carwell, of Staunton passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Carwell was born on June 22, 1928, a son of the late John Lewis Carwell and Margaret (Howdyshell) Carwell.
Lewis served in the United States Naval Reserves and retired from American Safety Razor with thirty-five years of service. He was an avid hunter of Civil War relics in Virginia, especially in Augusta County. Mr. Carwell received a plaque for his effort and volunteer work in restoration and running the Gypsy Hill Express. In earlier years he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and many other activities. He was a coffee lover and was a member of the Bojangles Breakfast Club.
Mr. Carwell was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline Miller.
In addition to his wife of seventy-two years, he is survived by his son, Dennis Carwell and his wife, Rhonda; grandchildren, Stephanie Berry, Emily Carwell, and Logan Truxell; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Harriette Shuey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the First Church of God, 1850 Shutterlee Mill Road, Staunton with Pastor Kyle D. Yates.
Burial will follow in Union Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory at 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
