Leonard George Coutu

November 28, 1938 - August 28, 2026

Leonard George Coutu, 87, of Waynesboro, Virginia, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2026 at the University of Virginia. Leonard previously resided in Stuarts Draft for 43 years.

Born on November 28, 1938 in Milford, Massachusetts, he was the son of Leo and Ida Coutu. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rita Coutu in 2011; a daughter, Tammie Coutu and son, Scott Coutu.

Leonard retired from Precision Fabricators in Stuarts Draft as a machinist after 36 years of dedicated employment. He spent much of his spare time in his woodworking shop making furniture in which he took great pride. He loved traveling in his RV and camping at his stepson, Dave's. He also loved listening to country music and watching western movies. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He loved spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren play sports and every day he would send a Good Morning text to his children. He was also known for his love of Little Debbie's and blueberry muffins!

In his younger days, he played on the Kampersal softball team in Holliston, Massachusetts and enjoyed horseback riding and competing in horse shows.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Darlene; daughters Debbie Bedard (Russ) of Linwood, Massachusetts; Bonnie Fronk (Alan) of Weare, New Hampshire; Heidi Bernazzani of Nashua, New Hampshire. Stepchildren Jerry McAuley of Bridgewater, Virginia; David McAuley of West Augusta, Virginia; Debi Comisky (Dan) of Upton, Massachusetts; Larry McAuley of Bridgewater, Virginia and Lori McAuley Moore (Robert) of Waynesboro, Virginia and an adopted daughter, Christina Kusco of Staunton, Virginia. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as his brother Henry Coutu of Rhode Island.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Faith Worship Center, 2522 Tinkling Springs Road, Stuarts Draft, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 12:00 PM.

There will be a memorial service for family and friends in Massachusetts at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Jimmy Fund or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 7202 Glen Forest Drive, Suite 102, Richmond, VA 23226 and please note "Team Bentley."
