Lawrence "Ld" Nolen

Lawrence Dalton “L.D.” Nolen, 75, of Edinburg, VA passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024.

L.D. was born in Rocky Mount, VA on February 28, 1949, son of the late William Otey Nolen and Lola Shively Nolen-Hall..  He was a graduate of Warren County High School, Front Royal, VA, class of 1968. L.D. attended Franklin County High School, Rocky Mount, VA, until the spring of 1968.  He entered the United States Navy in the fall of 1968 where he was stationed aboard the USS Independence until the spring of 1973.   After serving in the Navy, L.D. was employed by Avtex Fibers in Front Royal, Allied Maintenance Corp. in McLean, VA, Boeing Services of Chantilly, VA, Booz Allen Hamilton of McLean, VA, and retired from Raytheon Systems Company of Warrenton, VA as a Senior Field Engineer.  He was also a member of Local 99, International Union of Operating Engineers. 
 
Survivors include his loving wife Linda Craig Nolen whom he married August 23, 1969 (almost 55 years); his daughter Kristi N. Coons (Jeff Bowerman) of Front Royal, VA; two grandchildren whom he adored, Morgan N. Coons of Stephens City and Brian Michael Coons of Front Royal; one sister Pattie Griggs (Walter) of Axton, VA, and a brother Lane Hall (Cindy) of Rocky Mount, VA. He was proceeded in death by a sister Rebecca Minter of Axton, VA. 

A graveside service for L.D. will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2024, at Bennetts Chapel Cemetery in Front Royal, VA with Rev. Glen Early officiating.  

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made in memory of L.D. to the Front Royal Fire Department.
