Lavern "Sissy" Veney

LaVern “Sissy” Eola Veney, 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at her home.

She was born December 28, 1947 to the late Charles Junior Veney and Eola J. Veney.

LaVern graduated from Central Augusta High School in Staunton. She worked at Kaylor’s Restaurant, Stanley Furniture, and retired from McKee Foods in Stuarts Draft. She was a lifetime member of Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church in Grottoes.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Phyllis Veney and Evelyn Byrd; her grandson, Blake Flipping and granddaughter, Tazmia Kyle.

LaVern is survived by her daughter, Sylvia V. Kyle and her husband, William of Waynesboro; her grandchildren, Kendall Veney of Waynesboro and Katlin Veney of Waynesboro; a special granddaughter, Laila Washington of Staunton; her brother Charles “Bo” Veney of Grottoes and a number of nieces and nephews and other family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, September 15, 2025 at Mount Moriah United Methodist Church, 708 6th St., Grottoes. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 12 Noon until 1:00 pm, the hour of service.
