Laura Jean (Cash) Bostic

Laura Jean (Cash) Bostic, age 91, widow of Arbuary L (Pete) Bostic, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a short illness. She was born on May 27, 1935, at Coffman Hill, Ronceverte, West Virginia, a daughter of the late James Monroe and Ola Bennett Cash. She graduated from Greenbrier High School, attended C & O School of Nursing and much later in life returned to Eastern Mennonite College and graduated with a BS degree in Nursing. She obtained a MSA Degree from Central Michigan College in Health Administration. Laura was a devoted and dedicated nurse, she started her career at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Staunton, VA and later moved to McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond. While at McGuire, she and a fellow nurse wrote the proposal converting the inpatient unit at McGuire’s to an outpatient unit. She was very active in Virginia Nurses Association and, also, the Nurses Organization for Veterans Affairs. She served as President of both organizations and, served on their boards for numerous terms. Laura was a charter member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. After her move to Richmond, Virginia, she was an active member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Chesterfield, VA. Upon her return to Staunton, she resumed her membership at Bethany. She previously served both Churches as an Elder. Laura deeply cared for her Churches and her Church families. In addition to her parents and her husband, Laura was preceded in death by a son, James W. Bostic; a sister, Betty C. Wease; three brothers, Larry M. Cash, Jack Burns and his wife, Marlene, and Joe Burns and his wife, Peggy; brothers-in-law, Jack, George, Paul and Ronnie Bostic. Laura is survived by her best friend and companion, her pet dog, “LuLu”; a son, Rodney L. Bostic; a daughter, Carol Phillips (Elwood); four grandchildren, Zachary Bostic, John Bostic, Morgan Fisher and Justin Fisher; a great granddaughter, Braelynn Fisher; two sisters, Nancy Marshall and Judy Moran; a brother-in-law, Bobby Bostic (Judy); two sisters-in-law Robbie Bostic and Lettie Bostic. She is also survived by special niece, Polly Wease; special nephew, Ronnie Bostic and his wife, Kim, and their daughter Alyssa, who have afforded her much love and support during the final years of her life. In addition, she is survived by numerous other nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Thornrose Cemetery by Rev. John Craft. The family will meet friends and family immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall of Bethany Presbyterian Church, 5th and G Streets, Staunton, VirginiaCoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
