Larry Wayne Cross
Larry Wayne Cross, 77, husband of Betty Kay (Thompson) Cross, of Staunton, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Cross was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 19, 1946, son of the late Sidney Hunter Cross and Ella Mae (Sprouse) Cross.
Larry retired from A.S.R. in 2000 and was a member of Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren. He cherished his wife, children, and extended family. Larry delighted in traveling with his wife, fishing, boating, and spending serene days on the water, particularly at Lake Anna. He found joy in exploring Goodwill stores and attending yard sales. Larry will be fondly remembered for his knack of acquiring multiple vehicles, boats, and fishing poles simultaneously.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cross was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Gary Cross; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Thompson; and a great-grandchild, Gage William Witt.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 36 years, is a son, George Cross of Verona; a daughter, Rebecca “Becky” (Cross) Mohler and her husband, Philip of Mt. Solon; four brothers, Sidney Cross and his wife, Carolyn of Grottoes, Joe Cross and his wife, Debbie of Deerfield, Allon Cross of Swoope, and Julius Cross and his wife, Cathy of Stuarts Draft; three sisters, Gail Halterman and her husband, Don of Staunton, Ella Campbell and her husband, Johnny of Verona, and Kandy Wilkins of Greenville; two brothers-in-law, Fred Thompson and Doug Thompson and his wife, Sabre; grandchildren, Zachary Witt, Nicholas Witt (Jessica), Andrew Mohler, Mandy See (Clay), Hannah Cross, Hunter Cross and Hayden Cross; numerous great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Oaklawn Memory Gardens by Pastors Galen Combs and Henry Elsea.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the Augusta Health staff, Augusta Home Health, and the Preston Yancey Fire Company. Special thanks are also extended to Linda Harris, our church family, and all relatives who have provided invaluable support over the past year.
