Karl James Kwolek
Karl James Kwolek, 82, of Weyers Cave, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at the University of Virginia Hospital.
He was born on December 4, 1940, in Wilkinsburg, PA, and was a son of the late Stanley and Gizella (Shiner) Kwolek.
Karl developed a passion for cooking from an early age. Following his graduation from Cambridge Springs High School in 1958 he worked in food service at several universities before settling in the Shenandoah Valley where he was the director of food service for Bridgewater College for over 30 years. Following his retirement he opened Karl's Restaurant in Bridgewater. He was a dedicated member of the Bridgewater Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. Karl was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Karl is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Hawkinberry "Margo" Kwolek; his children Kim Shahan and husband John, Kammi Evans and husband Pete, and Jamison Kwolek and wife Crystal; his siblings, Mickie Morrelli and husband Joe, Helena McCafferty, Stanley Kwolek and wife Eva, and Cheryl Gerheim. Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his son, Karl Kwolek, Jr.
In honoring Karl's wishes, the family will celebrate his life on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 1380 Blackberry Lane, Harrisonburg, VA with a pizza party.
Karl had a passion for gardening in his retired years, so in lieu of flowers, please plant a tree in Karl's memory.
