Justine "Daniel" Rachel Tilghman

July 25, 1944 - September 11, 2023

Justine Rachel (Daniel) Tilghman, 79, of Craigsville, wife of Ray Lee Tilghman, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Mrs. Tilghman was born in Craigsville, Virginia on July 25, 1944, the daughter of the late Justinian Flavius Daniel and Rachel Armstrong (Tuttle) Daniel. Mrs. Tilghman attended grade school in Craigsville and was an Alumni of Stuart Hall and James Madison University.
Married in June of 1961 to Ray, Mrs. Tilghman raised their three boys as a military spouse while the couple were stationed at locations across the U.S. After graduating from JMU, she worked as a Certified Public Accountant in the San Francisco and New York metropolitan areas. Following the death of her father in 1988, she returned to her hometown. 
A pillar in the Craigsville community, Justine was a member of Craigsville Presbyterian Church, serving as treasurer, the owner of Daniel Motor Company, the founder of the Craigsville Food Pantry, and a proud supporter of the Craigsville Little League. Additionally, she held many positions with the Augusta County Planning Committee and Zoning Appeals Board. 
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tilghman was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Beau and cousin, John Beverly Daniel.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of 61 years, are three sons, Timothy F. Tilghman and his wife, Jeannie of Cotati, CA, Lance A. Tilghman and his wife, Kelly of Navarre, FL, and Brent D. Tilghman and his wife, Dana of Kittrell, NC; eight grandchildren, Justinian, Juliana, Austin, Riley, Kimberly, Kristen, Sara, and Bryce; eight great-grandchildren, Chase, Wyatt, Cormac, Sophie, Weston, Charlotte, Emilia, and Levy; her close cousin, Vickie Bashaw; a close friend and assistant, Barbara Short; and numerous additional acquaintances through her many community activities.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A private graveside service will be held in Craigsville Memorial Cemetery.
