Joyce May Lough

May 29, 1941 - December 30, 2023

Joyce May Caricofe Lough, 82, of Mount Solon, VA died Saturday, December 30, 2023 surrounded by loved ones.

She was born in Dayton on May 29, 1941 and was the daughter of the late Willard (Bill) & Beatrice (May) Smelser Caricofe.

On November 15, 1958 she was united in marriage to Bobbie Lough who survives.

She graduated from Turner Ashby High School in June 1960. She last worked in Mail Management at Friendship Industries for eight years, retiring in August of 2006.

In addition to her husband, Joyce is survived by their three children, Karen Renee Britton, Tammy Annette Ritchie and Kevin Randall Lough of Bridgewater. She was the beloved Grandmother of six; Adam Root, Anthony and Bradley Britton of Richmond, Michael Britton of Arizona, Jason Ritchie of Hinton and Heather Sellers of Bridgewater. Six great-grandchildren; Brooke Root, Aaron Britton, McKinley Sellers, Parker Sellers, Aila Britton, and Raelynn Britton. Joyce also leaves behind her dear sister, Judy C. Shiflet (Albert) of Hinton.

Her only brother, Robert (Bob) and his wife Claudia preceded her in death.

She enjoyed sewing, oil painting, reading, planting and tending to her flowers, and watching the hummingbirds. She was a loving and caring person and will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Service from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.

Joyce was a member of Mt. Bethel Church of the Brethren, but had been attending Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Mt. Solon. She will be laid to rest beside her parents in the Dayton Cemetery. Pastor Al Tuten will perform the services.
