Joyce Anita Van Vickle
Joyce Anita Van Vickle, 75, of Weyers Cave, VA passed away peacefully in her home on June 1, 2023 surrounded by her family.
Joyce was born July 3, 1947, to the late Frank and Helen Meek, in Spivey, Kansas. She married the love of her life, Stephen, September 24, 1967. In their 56 years of marriage, they lived in Kansas, Arizona, Florida, and Virginia. Steve and Joyce have two children, Trenton and Ashley.
Joyce was so proud of her long career in the beauty shops in all of the places they called home, helping people feel beautiful in their own way. Her degree in Horticulture was another source of pride, and she put this knowledge to use in her own home and offered advice to friends and family so that they too could enjoy such wonderful plants and flowers.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Helen, and is survived by her husband Stephen; three sisters, Harriet (David) Thornton, Mary (Donald) Strycker, Helen (Steve) Meseraull; two children, Trenton Van Vickle, and Ashley (Jeffrey) Young; four grandchildren, Braylon Young, Reid Van Vickle, Elliot Van Vickle, Asher Young.
It would be wrong to say that Joyce lost her battle with Cancer because she never stopped fighting, it has just ended. In all things she was determined and resilient, when anyone else would have broken, Joyce stayed strong and persevered. These are just a few of the lessons that she showed through example. She is now resting in the arms of Jesus.
Her family would like to invite you to join them for a memorial service celebrating Joyceâs life at Weyers Cave United Methodist Church on June 9th at 2:00pm. All are welcome. Inurnment will be in Chanute, KS.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, gifts be made to support Dr. Trish Millardâs breast cancer research trials at UVA.
