Joy Lee Curd

Joy Lee Curd, 63, of Fishersville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, in Fishersville after a long and courageous battle with illness.

Born on July 23, 1962, in Waynesboro, Virginia, Joy was the daughter of Thomas Henry Curd and the late Vera Mae Boenig Curd.

Joy graduated from Mary Baldwin University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and went on to enjoy a long and successful career as an Insurance Claims Adjuster with USAA⁠.

A woman of deep faith, Joy was a member of Fishersville United Methodist Church. She also found great joy in music and was an member of the Waynesboro Choral Society. Whether singing in church, enjoying musical theater, or sharing her love of music with others, music was woven throughout her life and brought her tremendous happiness.

Joy also had a zest for life and adventure. She loved the beach, sunshine, traveling, celebrating life’s special moments, and making memories with the people she loved. Her warm spirit, laughter, and loving heart touched the lives of many.

More than anything, Joy cherished her family. She is survived by her father, Henry Curd; her brother, James Curd and sister-in-law Kelly Curd; her sons, Daniel Drue Byers, (daughter-in-law Kimberley Ann Byers), Isaiah Paul Byers, and Benjamin Jacob Byers; and her beloved grandchildren, Conner, Alyssa, Austin, Benjamin Jr., and Mason.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Vera Curd.

Those who knew Joy will remember her for her kindness, her loving heart, her faith, her resilience, and the warmth she brought to others. Though her final years were marked by illness, her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and free from suffering.

A celebration of Joy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Fishersville United Methodist Church, with family and friends invited to gather in remembrance and thanksgiving for her life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fishersville United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice in Joy’s memory.
