Josephine Lee (Wood) Hanger

Josephine Lee “Jo Lee” (Wood) Hanger, 98, widow of Blair Bowmann “B.B.” Hanger, Jr. of Staunton passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at the Legacy at North Augusta in Staunton. She was born in Greenwood, Virginia on July 21, 1928, a daughter of the late Stuard Grayson and Anna Addie (McAllister) Wood. Josephine retired as a teacher in Waynesboro, Staunton, and Augusta County Schools. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ervin, Thomas, Stuard, Kenneth, Fulton, Dan, and Eddie Wood and her sister, Lucille Willis. She is survived by her daughter, Leanna Blair Hanger Davis and husband, James Timothy Davis, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; son, David Bowman Hanger and wife, Ava Swanlund Hanger of King George, Virginia; and five grandchildren, Bowman James Davis (Leigh), Benjamin Wood Davis, Tyler Monroe Davis, Daniel Bowman Hanger, and Audrey JianFen Hanger. A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 334 Mt. Tabor Road, Staunton, Virginia 24401. Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
