Joseph Nowell Miller

Joseph Nowell Miller, aged 67, passed away on January 13, 2026, in Fishersville, Virginia. Born on December 6, 1958, Joseph was a dedicated employee at Amp Inc. and later served as a Correctional Officer at the Middle River Jail upon his retirement.

Joseph was a kind hearted person and had a funny sense of humor. He brought a smile to everyone he met.

Joseph was a proud member of the Middle River Church of the Brethren, where he actively participated in various community activities. He was known for his passion for softball and travel, and he was an enthusiastic sports fan, particularly of the Dallas Cowboys and the North Carolina Tarheels.

He is survived by his son, Joseph Nowell Miller II; stepchildren, Billie Jo McCartney, Kayla Ramsey, Jason Loan, and Amy Loan Dunford; grandchildren, Kole Hensley, Kyra Miller, Kaden Miller, Tyler, Maddie, and Katlin Dunford; sisters, Carol A. Bullett, Mary Glasper-Davis, Monica Sease Agee (George) and Cassandra Sease; brothers, Nathaniel Miller, Isaiah Miller (Kathleen) and David Miller; Aunt Clara Wheaton; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Warren C. Miller and Josephine C. Miller and his sister, Ruth Ann Miller.

A visitation will be held between 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Grottoes. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will be private.

After the service, friends are welcome to gather at the Grottoes Fire Department for a meal.
