John Hott, Sr.

September 2, 1946 - August 20, 2023

John Paul Hott Sr., age 76, of Petersburg, WV passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. 

John was born on September 2, 1946 in Cumberland, Maryland and was a son of the late Clarence Paul Hott and Bama Vivian (Hood) Hott. 

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by infant twin sons, Jeffrey and Jarred Hott; one brother, Steve L. Hott, one sister, Ann Hott Cerne, two brothers-in-law, William “Bill” Kline and Kermit Redman.

John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pamela (Redman) Hott

One son:  Delegate John Paul Hott II and wife Karen  of Petersburg, WV

Four Grandchildren:  Brooke Elizabeth Hott of Petersburg, WV; John Paul Hott III  (Sara) of Moorefield, WV, Sarah Ann Berg (Lucas) of Keyser, WV and Raphael Heber Alt Hott of Petersburg, WV

One Great Granddaughter:  Kate Ann Hott 

One sister:  Marlene Hott Kline of Olympia, WA

Six Sisters-in-law: Norma Hott of Petersburg, WV, Brenda Johnson (Reginald) of Keyser, WV, Pam Redman of Franklin, WV, Eileen Saunders (Johnny ) of Fredericksburg, VA,  Melody “Peach” Eversole (Glenn) of Maysville, WV, Darlene “Dee” Dunn of Terryville, CT, one brother-in-law, Clarence “Doug” Redman (Beth) of Maysville, WV.

Numerous nieces and nephews.

John was a 1965 graduate of Petersburg High School.  John volunteered in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War 1966-1967 in the 9th Infantry Division.  He was a member of the VFW Post 6454 and American Legion Post 78. He also was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 172 of Cumberland, MD.  He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 132, Petersburg, WV. John also was a poultry farmer. 

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 from 11 A.M. – 1 P.M. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Funeral service will begin at 1 PM with Bishop Stephen Noel officiating. Interment will follow in Lahmansville Cemetery with Military Honors by Grant County Veterans Honor Guard  and West Virginia Army Honor Guard.
