John Douglas Price
John Douglas Price, 71, husband of Lydia V. Price of Waynesboro, formerly of Stanardsville, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.
Mr. Price was born in Waynesboro, Virginia on September 5, 1952, a son of the late John C. Price and Lois (Pensinger) Price.
Doug was a member of Muhlenberg Lutheran Church in Harrisonburg. He was a retired licensed social worker and a deacon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and spent most of his career developing human service programs and service delivery systems in Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Nevada. After retiring as a deacon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Chambersburg, PA, Doug served a number of congregations in Virginia as a supply preacher. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan, a life-long golfer, and had traveled to all fifty states, Europe, and the Caribbean. After moving to Virginia, Doug became a volunteer "wildlife docent" and educator for the Wildlife Center of Virginia.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Price was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Price.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of twenty-four years, are two sons, Mark Price, and Sean Price; a step-daughter, Amanda Nicholson; daughter-in-law, Sharlyn Price; son-in-law, Jeff Nicholson; and two grandchildren, Ian and Amelia Price.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church by Pastor Lauren Eanes with entombment to follow in the church columbarium.
The family will receive friends at a reception following the service.
