John David Wells
Dr. John David Wells, 78, of Staunton, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.
Mr. Wells was born in Norton (Wise County), Virginia on January 19, 1946, a son of the late Emmett and Irene (Johnson) Wells.
John was a 1964 graduate of Palmyra High School in Palmyra, NJ; received a B.S. degree from Tusculum University in Greenville, TN; a Master’s Degree from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN; and his PhD from Virginia Tech. Dr. Wells was a Professor at Mary Baldwin College for over forty years and was the author of several novels. He traveled extensively throughout Europe, South America, and especially loved Costa Rica in Central America, gaining knowledge and experience for his novels. He was a gifted athlete and especially enjoyed golfing. Dr. Wells was an avid gardener, enjoyed working outside, and had a special companionship with his fox terrier, “Mickey”.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Wells was preceded in death by a brother, Jeff Sinsel; and a sister, Donna Allison.
He is survived by his brother, Dennis Wells; a cousin, Kathleen Strakey and her husband, George; and nephews, Jason and Randy.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Thornrose Cemetery by George Strakey.
