John Dale Croushorn

May 22, 1931 - October 29, 2024

John Dale Croushorn, 93, of Dayton went home to be with the Lord October 29, 2024 at his home after having congestive heart failure and renal failure.

He was born May 22, 1931 to the late John Hensel Croushorn and Bertha Anna Kiracofe Croushorn. 1n addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister. Dale attended Fulton School House and graduated from Dayton High School in 1950. He was involved in several sports including baseball, basketball and football.

Dale served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Berlin, Germany where he was a sergeant in the 6th Infantry Honor Guard. After returning from Germany, he worked as an electrician and farmer. He was a member of Myers Hodges VFW Post #8644. He owned his own business for many years, Ottobine Electric. In his later life, he worked for Virginia Silo. Dale loved his family and supported his children in their school activities by attending their ball games and school events. He was a wonderful storyteller and full of wisdom. An avid deer and turkey hunter, he could walk for miles throughout the mountains looking for game.

Dale was an active member of the Dayton Church of the Brethren until poor health kept him home bound. He served as an usher, church board member, chairman of the Stewards commission on several occasions and also on the Deacon board.

On June 28, 1953, Dale married his high school sweetheart, the former Mary Alice Blosser. Surviving besides his wife of 71 years are their four children: Barbara Colvin (Scotty) of Dayton, Robin Klobcar (fiancé Darrell Campbell) of Churchville, John D. Croushorn, II (Virginia) of Dayton and M. Dirk Croushorn (Shemaine) of Dayton. Dale has eight grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. He also has four great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.

We have no doubt that Dad, Uncle Bill, Uncle Lawrence, and Grandad Walter are pitching horseshoes in Heaven which they did every Sunday afternoon for many years.

A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, November 1, 2024 at Dayton Church of the Brethren. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM at Beaver Creek Cemetery.

Family and friends may pay their respects and sign the guest book on Thursday, October 31, 2024 from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM at Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service in Bridgewater.
