John "Billy" Harris
John “Billy” Harris, 81, of Waynesboro, passed away on May 22, 2025 at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville. He was born in Waynesboro on August 20, 1943, a son of the late Charles Harris, Sr. and Beatrice Harris.
Billy proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. He worked as Gauge Setter with Cirro Metal until his retirement in 2009. Billy was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed gardening. In the 80s, he and his wife, Margaret enjoyed going to the Moose Lodge for a little dancing on Saturday nights.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Lee Whitfield and his brother, Charles E.”Buck” Harris, Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Margaret E. Harris; daughter, Beatrice E. Sprouse; special daughter, Amy Kennedy; grandchildren: Christi M. DeWhirst, Tesia D. Wood, Cody Pugh, Jesse Whitfield, Jr., and Tyler L. Whitfield; great grandchildren: Jazmine DeWhirst, Jamie DeWhirst, Jordan Banks, Jayden Banks, and Angel Jones; sister, Nettie Lee Pierce and husband, Ron of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Linda Harris of Stuarts Draft; son-in-law, Jesse Whitfiled, Sr.; as well as extended family and friends.
Per Billy’s wishes, there will be no formal services held.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Ali and the staff at the Shenandoah Hospice House for their amazing care of Billy in his final days.
