John Allen Hartless
John Allen Hartless, 76, husband of Nora “Susan” (Fielding) Hartless, of Lammermoor Drive, Staunton, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
Mr. Hartless was born in Staunton, Virginia on September 12, 1948, a son of the late James Albert Hartless and Mary Magdalene (Terrell) Hartless Benson.
Mr. Hartless was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a member for over 60 years. He faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and church moderator. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in the Class of 1967 and went on to earn his degree from James Madison University in 1977.
A passionate and active participant in local politics, John was a proud Republican and a dedicated member of the Staunton Republican Committee. He retired as a service center manager from Overnite Transportation, where he was known for his leadership and strong work ethic.
John found joy in golfing, reading, and watching classic westerns, but above all, he cherished time spent with his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather, whose warmth and presence will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William “Bill” Hartless and Roy Lee Hartless.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 55 years, is a son, Tim Hartless and his girlfriend, Amy Brown of Staunton; a daughter, Beth (Hartless) Longmire and her husband, Martin of Waynesboro; a brother-in-law, Frank Fielding and his wife, Becki of Stuarts Draft; a sister-in-law, Pam Hartless of Staunton; two grandchildren, Clara and Seth Longmire; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church by Pastors Bobby Campbell and Stewart McCarter.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be James Fielding, Gregory Culpen, Joel Miller, Olen Swisher, Justin Shomo, Matt Caldwell, Corey Shaner, and Michael Batey.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
