Joe T. Back

CHURCHVILLE – Joe Thomas Back, Jr., 57, passed away Friday (July 14, 2023) in Augusta Health.Born July 10, 1966 in Staunton, he was the son of Ellen Mae (Weaver) Back and the late Joe Thomas “Tommy” Back. Joe was a 1986 graduate of Buffalo Gap High School. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a mechanic for Cerro Fabricated Products, Inc. He enjoyed cornhole, fishing and hunting, as well as being a part of the “Danger Ranger” pulling team. Joe was a loving son, brother, brother-in-law and uncle.He was preceded in death by his father; as well as maternal grandparents Lula and Wilson Weaver; paternal grandparents Lucille and Stanley Back; aunts Louise “Pook” Wootson, and Bernice Weaver; and uncle Stewart Weaver.He is survived by his mother and her friend Bill Craig; a sister, Marilynn Back Shank and husband Jeffrey; nephews, Ryan Back (fiancé Starla Dawn Mahon) and Joshua Shank (fiancé Megan Mathis); aunts Judy Morris and Doris Spradlin; numerous cousins and many friends; and his beloved dog, “Maxaman.”The family will receive friends at Bear Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 19. Following the visitation, his body will be cremated.The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be directed to his funeral fund.
