Joan S. Wine

MOUNT SIDNEY – Joan King (Shreckhise) Wine, 84, widow of William D. “Bill” Wine, passed away Sunday (May 31, 2026) in the University of Virginia Hospital.

Born December 23, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Richard Crawford Shreckhise and Virginia Hurlock (King) Shreckhise. Joan was a graduate of Middle River High School.

On July 25, 1959, she married her schoolmate and sweetheart, Bill Wine. Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who deeply loved her family. She was a life-long member of Mt. Pisgah Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed dining out with her church friends on Sundays. Joan enjoyed family vacations with John and Pearl Hockman and John and Jennifer Brooks. One of her favorite trips was an adventure out west.

Bill preceded her in death on February 7, 2026. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Cindy Wine; her brother, Richard F. Shreckhise; and a brothers-in-law, John Brooks and Jack Wine.

Surviving are two children, Jeffrey Deahl Wine (wife Ellie) and Lori Ann Wine Cox (husband Doug); sisters Jennifer Brooks and Karen Lambert (husband Nevin); sister-in-law Pat Shreckhise; grandchildren Seth Cox (fiancée Kayla), Chase Wine (wife Brooke), Clint Cox (fiancée Megan), Damian Fink (wife Angie), Devon Fridley, and great-grandchildren Carter, Drake and Bryson Fink, Lance and Landon Fridley, and Sadie and Cade Wine; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 7 in Mt. Pisgah Church. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Burial will take place in the church cemetery at a later date.
