Jessie A. Shuey

STAUNTON – Jessie Aileen (Hedrick) Armstrong Shuey, 82, passed away Thursday (June 11, 2026) in Augusta Health.

Jessie was born on September 9, 1943, one of ten children born to the late Eliakim Hedrick and Mary Ella (Persinger) Hedrick Bishop. She attended Churchville High School. Jessie was a in-home care provider for the elderly until she retired. She was an avid vegetable gardener, and enjoyed cooking and canning, animals and wildlife, and trips to the beach. She deeply loved all her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Carl H. “Junior” Armstrong; sons-in-law Butch Milstead and Dennis Harlow; grandson Matthew Armstrong; sisters Bessie Harper, Myrtle Graham and Josephine Graham; and brothers Tom, Bill, Buck, Joe and Pete Hedrick.

Surviving are four daughters, Tina Milstead, Patty Harlow, Stephanie Wheeler (husband Shannon) and Crystal Huffer (husband Chris); brother Virgil Hedrick; grandchildren Jessica Miller, Ginny May, April Milstead, Shaun Harlow, Douglas Harlow, Amanda Harlow, Devin Miller, Jonathan Wheeler and Zara Huffer; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and her beloved dogs.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16 in Deerfield Community Cemetery, officiated by Mr. Gary Armstrong. Pallbearers will be Frankie Pugh, David May, Robert and Hunter Varner, Mike Duvall and Chris Huffer.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Bear Funeral Home.
