Jean A. Halterman

December 22, 1927 - December 2, 2021

STAUNTON – Wanda Jean (Armstrong) Halterman, 93, formerly of Plaza Apartments, died Thursday (December 2, 2021) in Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center. 

Born December 22, 1927 in Deerfield, she was a daughter of John Hudson Armstrong and Thelma Belle (Morris) Armstrong.  Jean was employed by Woolworth for 30 years, and retired as restaurant manager.  She was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church.  Jean was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, and dearly loved her grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by a son, David Wayne Halterman; a sister, Madeline Wills; and seven brothers, Carlton, Mason, Stanley, Bruce, Kenneth, Donnie and Kern Armstrong. 

Surviving are two children, Ronald Lee Halterman of Greenville and Debra Ann Harris of Stuarts Draft; two sisters, Brenda Reid and Joyce VanLear, both of Staunton; a brother, Curtis Armstrong of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Shawn, Christopher and Melissa Harris, Jessica Lynn Strickler and husband Robbie, and Emeral Halterman; two great-grandchildren, Brianne Harris and Jaylenn Desper; and many nieces and nephews. 

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, December 6 in Deerfield Community Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Merle Dodson.
