James P. Corbett

SWOOPE – James Patrick Corbett, 76, of Swoope, passed away Thursday (February 8, 2024) in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Jim was born March 18, 1947 in Staunton and was a son of Frank Willard and Emmaline (Howdyshell) Corbett. He was a 1965 graduate of Buffalo Gap High School. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Daikin. He was a member of Victory Worship Center. Jim was an avid outdoorsman and a genuine people-person.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Kaye (Via) Corbett. Surviving are a son, Jason Patrick Corbett (Gloria) of Staunton; two stepsons, Tony Shifflett (Michelle Nuckols) of Staunton and Brian Shifflett of Waynesboro; a brother, Elwood Corbett of Mt. Solon; four grandchildren, Jeremiah, Isabelle, Carson and Eli Corbett; three step grandchildren, Samantha Lilly, Amanda Mitchell and Brian Shifflett II; and five step great-grandchildren, Noah, Hayes, Mia, Joseph and Madison.

A service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, February 15 in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Ray Eppard.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Swoope Volunteer Fire Department.
