James Keyser

December 24, 1943 - May 14, 2024

James David Keyser, affectionately known to his family and friends as Jim/Jimmy, age 80, of Middletown, VA, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, after a battle with cancer.  

Mr. Keyser was born in the Compton community of Page County, VA on December 24, 1943, a son of the late James Madison and Lorraine Presgraves Keyser.  Jim retired from VDOT where he worked as a Superintendent, having many years of faithful employment.  He owned and operated a sawmill and was a talented woodworker, making picnic tables, benches, bird houses, decorations, and cutting boards using many types of wood.  Jim was also a skillful day trader.  Generous with his time, Jim was always willing to lend a helping hand and very willing to teach others his many skills.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Wright Keyser who passed away on November 25, 2021, and siblings Bobby Keyser, Rick Loring Keyser, Evelyn Kegley, and Doris Engel.

Survivors include his five children, Carol Butler (Walter) of Luray, VA, Julie Bernau (Alan) of Luray, VA, Heather Campbell (David) of Middletown, VA, Barry Keyser and Jeremy Keyser (Tabatha) all of Luray, VA;  his beloved grandchildren Logan, James, Makenna, Joy, and Joel; his siblings Ron Keyser (Mary) of Luray, VA, Nancy Keyser-Bryant (Vance Bryant) of Stanley, VA, Betsy Munson (Steve) of White Post, VA;  many nieces, nephews, and cousins along with a special friend, Peggy Shrimpton. 

A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Grace United Methodist Church, 7882 Main St., Middletown, VA.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  All are invited to share in a time of food and fellowship afterwards at Dome Hill.   

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions in memory of James D. Keyser to Arbor Day Foundation (arborday.org) or Blue Ridge Hospice (brhospice.org).
