James "Jimmy" Carson Smith

April 8, 1950 - July 28, 2024

James Carson “Jimmy” Smith, 74, husband of Linda Sorrells Smith, of Crimora, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at his residence.
Mr. Smith was born in Staunton, Virginia on April 8, 1950, the son of the late Waymer Carson Smith and Naomi Louise (Spitzer) Smith.
Jimmy retired from Augusta Health, serving 28 years as a Lab Courier. A dedicated community member, Mr. Smith was an honorary member of the Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad and served as a driver for the Churchville and Grottoes Rescue Squads. He was an avid sports fan, particularly cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Braves, and UVA Cavaliers. In his younger years, Jimmy enjoyed playing softball and was known for his warm, outgoing personality—he never met a stranger. He had a special fondness for western shows, particularly those featuring John Wayne, and was an avid listener of Elvis Presley. Christmas held a special place in his heart, and he took joy in decorating and playing Santa Claus for those who were homebound and at various events. Above all, Jimmy cherished his family and adored his grandson, Kooper, who was his pride and joy.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by an adopted son, Gene Smith.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 31 years, is a son, Robbie Smith and his wife, Angel; a grandson, Kooper; a sister, Bonnie Pettie (Wayne Moore); a sister-in-law, Joyce Anderson and her husband, Warren; a brother-in-law, Larry Sorrells and his wife, Leigh Anne; a special cousin, Jerry Snyder; life-long friends, Bernie and Fred; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Port Republic Cemetery by Reverend Bob Johnson.
