Jackie Leonard Koontz

June 22, 1940 - March 13, 2024

Jackie Leonard Koontz, Sr., age 83, of Brandywine, WV, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 22, 1940, in Pendleton County, WV, the son of the late Hobert and Sadie (Blizzard) Koontz. On September 24, 1960, Jack married the love of his life, Judith Jean (Joseph) Koontz, who survives in Brandywine, WV. 

Jack was a 1958 graduate of Franklin High School and retired in 2004 as a groundsman from S & N Communications. He was a Lutheran by faith and enjoyed bear hunting, fishing, hunting mushrooms and camping. 

Jack was devoted to his family and friends. He formed an admirable love with his grandchildren that they will cherish forever. He had a passion for sports that included playing, watching and coaching. His heart was filled with pride and joy as he watched his children, grandchildren abd great- grandchildren compete in sports. 

Jack's love for life was huge and he shared that with his family and the Godchildren that he helped raise. His home and heart were always open to a child or anyone in need. 

Jack fought a courageous and heroic battle with cancer for six years. He never complained or revealed any struggle to his family. 

In addition to his wife, Jack leaves behind to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy: a daughter, Dolly Rexrode (Bill) of Sugar Grove, WV; a son, Jackie L. Koontz, Jr. and the late Tiffany of Brandywine, WV; a sister, Phyllis Heavner (Jerry) of Franklin, WV; 2 brothers, James Koontz (Glenna) of Brandywine, WV, Bob Koontz and the late Delores  of Columbus, OH; 3 granddaughters, Krista, Casey, and Hannah; 5 great-grandchildren, Chase, Travis, Ky, Karli, Kipton; and several God-children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a daughter, Sarah Marie Koontz; 2 brothers, Jesse and Roger Koontz; and a sister, Barbara Koontz.
