Izetta Jewell Arbogast

August 10, 1924 - January 7, 2024

Izetta Jewell Arbogast, age 99, of Circleville, WV, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at her home. She was born on August 10, 1924, at Montrose, WV, the daughter of the late Alba Brown and Effie Belle (Bright) Canfield. In 1943, she traveled by bus to Bakersfield, CA to marry her beloved soldier-boy Paul Robert Arbogast on August 10, 1943.  Paul preceded her in death on October 4, 2007.

Izetta leaves behind to cherish her memory three daughters and sons-in law: Patricia and Mike Harrison of Harrisonburg, VA, Joan and Gene McConnell of Circleville, WV, Debra and Boyd Lucas of Circleville, WV; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Debra Arbogast of Seneca Rocks, WV; Four grandchildren, Carlton Wilkins, Rebecca Wilkins, Brandon Arbogast (Lindsay), and Whitney Spivey (Brett); four great-grandchildren, Makayla Wilkins, Chloe Spivey, Tristin Spivey, and Jack Arbogast, and one great-great grandson, Tabor; two sisters-in-law, Audra Arbogast and Ann Arbogast.  One grandson, Curry Wilkins, preceded her in death on December 25, 2022.

Izetta was the youngest of ten siblings and the last surviving member of her family. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Alleta Canfield Thornhill, Leecy Canfield Phillips, and Louie Belle Canfield Hart; and six brothers, Bernard, Earl, Woodrow, Virgil, Junior, and Ronald. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Izetta attended Elkins High School and was a member of the Circleville United Methodist Church. Seeing her family walk into the house and spending time with them was her greatest joy.  Accomplished in the art of the old-time style of hand embroidering, Izetta also quilted and sewed.  Throughout the years, she gardened and canned fruit and vegetables that found their way into the homes of many family and friends.   A robust West Virginia Mountaineer sports fan, she rarely missed watching a game on television or listening to the game on the radio.

Izetta's family will receive friends on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 11 AM until 1:00 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Debra Lucas officiating. Interment will be in North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton, WV.
