Hulda Heatwole Obituary
Hulda Elizabeth (Hershey) Heatwole, 90, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at The Meadows- Stuart Draft Christian Home. She was born in Paradise, PA, on March 27, 1936, the youngest daughter of Willis and Ruth Hershey.
Hulda received her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Mennonite College and her master’s degree in education from James Madison University. She worked at Mount Clinton Elementary until her retirement. Hulda was a member of Waynesboro Mennonite Church and Gospel Hill Mennonite Church in Harrisonburg. She was known to be a wonderful cook, especially her corn pudding. She lived her life to the fullest and spent her time traveling, square dancing, gardening, playing various sports like tennis, bowling, softball, and kayaking.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Galen Anthony Heatwole, Sr.; step-grandson, Tommy Austin; and her siblings: Marion Smith, Mildred Steffy, Dorothy Stauffer, Katherine Huddle, and Robert Hershey.
Survivors include her step- children: Donna H. Falls and husband, Jerome “Romie”, Galen Heatwole, Jr. and wife, Alice, and Garland Heatwole and wife, Tina; step-grandchildren: Bethany Kirby and husband, Jeremy Yoder, Jonathan Kirby and wife, Jessica, Hannah Hordeman and husband, Shawn, Alex Heatwole and wife, Heather, and Elyse Heatwole; step- great grandchildren: Jasper, Callen, Leighton, Oliver, and Cora; a number of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1pm on Friday, August 28, 2026 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Lehman officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at The Meadows- Stuart Draft Christian Home and the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for their compassionate care of Hulda.
