In Loving Memory of Howard Buford Southern "Rex"
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Rex on February 24, 2025. Rex was a true lover of life, a bright light to all who knew him, and a kind soul whose warmth and caring spirit touched everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his mother, TissieMae Southern; father,William Southern; brothers, Emmitt Southern and Jackie Southern Sr. Rex is survived by his loving family, including his sister, Lila "Betty" Craig; his brother, Bill Southern and many other cherished relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
Rex was known for his love of shopping, often finding joy in the simple pleasure of picking out something special, whether it was for himself or for those he cherished. His fondness for country music, especially the timeless hits of Dolly Parton, reflected his deep appreciation for the finer things in life—love, joy, and togetherness.
Above all, Rex treasured the time spent with family and friends. His laughter was contagious, and his presence provided comfort to everyone lucky enough to know him. Whether sharing a meal, telling stories, or simply enjoying each other’s company, Rex’s love for his loved ones was immeasurable and unwavering.
Rex leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and unforgettable memories. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in our hearts forever.
A celebration of life will be held for Rexon Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11:00 AMat Mount Vernon Mennonite Church,13188 Port Republic Road, Grottoes, VA.Pastor Greg Stenson will officiate the service.
