Howard "Ray" Rayfield Montaigne

Howard Rayfield “Ray” Montaigne, Jr., age 84, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at his home. He was born on July 13, 1939, in Cocomo, IN, the son of the late Helen Krauss Montaigne and the late Howard Rayfield Montaigne, Sr. On August 14, 1966, Ray married Cheryl Jane (Fisher) Montaigne, who survives in Brandywine. 

Mr. Montaigne was a 1957 graduate of High Point High School in Beltsville, MD and he attended Junior College for 2 years. He was a Lutheran by faith and he retired in 2005, as a Safety Director for BOSS Construction Company in Washington, DC. Ray was a member of Pendleton Lodge #144 AF & AM and he loved trains, motorcycles, and restoring old cars. He was a Veteran of the US Navy.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Montaigne leaves behind to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, Jessica Rae Bland (Donald) of California, Lydia Maria Montaigne of Florida; a son, Douglas Rayfield Montaigne (Sharena) of Sugar Grove, WV; a sister, Louise Comton of North Carolina; 2 granddaughters; and 2 great-grandchildren. 

In honoring Mr. Montaigne's wishes, his body has been cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time at Cass Scenic Railroad. Memories and words of comfort may be left at www.basagic.com or on Facebook at Basagic Funeral Home.
