Hilda Kyle
Hilda Suddith Kyle, 95, of Toms Brook, VA, passed away January 19th, 2024.
Hilda was born in Boyce, VA on December 24, 1928 a daughter of the late James Willis and Ruth Lee Suddith. Hilda felt a calling to ministry from a young age while attending Boyce United Methodist Church. This calling was fulfilled in her marriage to her beloved husband of 44 years and devoted United Methodist Pastor, Edward H. Kyle.
Hilda was committed to her church during their 40 years in the ministry touring Hilda and her family across the state of Virginia. Hilda faithfully served as church secretary, youth fellowship leader, and as an active member in the United Methodist Women. Hilda was most recently a proud member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Clary, Virginia and was blessed with fellowship in this congregation.
Hilda was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who freely shared her time and many talents with her loved ones. Hilda was preceded in death by her loving husband Edward H. Kyle in 1997, a brother Willis Lee Suddith and wife Molly; a sister Ellen S. Anders and husband John; a brother Charles Richard Suddith and wife Mary Ann. She is survived by her sons Edward Willis Kyle; Jonathan Lee Kyle (Lisa); daughter Winifred Baker (Greg); three grandchildren, Samantha Kyle (Josh); Gregory Baker (Emma); Nicole Baker (Robert) as well as her beloved nieces and nephews.
Mirroring her passion in the church, much of Hilda’s life revolved around family. As her children grew, Hilda served as Cub Scout Den Leader and school room mother. She shared her talents as a seamstress and talented cook with her loved ones. Through creating garments for children in the family, hosting annual Thanksgiving, and even hosting her own birthday dinner on Christmas Eve each year, Hilda fellowshipped with those she loved. A special tradition for Hilda was hosting “soup day” where family members would gather near the holidays for merriment.
In later years Hilda often journaled and wrote poetry, at times mailing these poems to her grandchildren. She never failed to give her grandchildren a “because it’s not your birthday card” each year during a cousin’s birthday so no one felt left out during celebration. Hilda’s family and faith were of the greatest importance throughout her 95 years.
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Warren Assisted Living for the compassionate care given to Hilda. Gratitude is extended to Blue Ridge Hospice for the support and care during Hilda’s final weeks.
A funeral service for Hilda will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Mt. Calvary United Church of Christ, 1299 Sheetz Mill Rd, Woodstock, VA 22664 with Rev. William Wade officiating.
