Hilda C. Huffer

April 9, 1937 - June 9, 2026

CHURCHVILLE – Hilda Mae (Campbell) Huffer, 89, of 1205 Jennings Gap Rd., passed away Tuesday (June 9, 2026) at her home.

Hilda was born in Rockbridge County on April 9, 1937, a daughter of the late Bernard Morris Campbell and Ethel Mabel (Hite) Campbell.

She graduated from Wilson Memorial High School, and on September 22, 1956, she married Eston Odell Huffer. Hilda retired from Gypsy Hill House where she was employed as secretary for many years. She was a long-time, active member of Staunton First Church of God, serving as a Sunday school teacher and president of the Women of the Church of God. Hilda enjoyed quilting and crocheting, and loved being involved in the lives of her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; seven sisters, Margie Todd, Mildred Henderson, Shelva Johnson, Evelyn Painter, Mabel Truslow, Annie Campbell and Betty Jean Taylor; and two brothers, Bernard Campbell and Samuel Campbell.

Surviving are twin daughters Sherry Kline and husband Danny, and Denise Downs and husband Scott, all of Churchville; grandchildren Jessica Griffin (husband Jacob), Felicia Jack (husband Tracy), Kyle Downs (wife Megan) and Dylan Downs; and great-grandchildren Karen Jack, Holt Jack, Kendyll Downs, Landon Downs, Bennett Downs, Tillie Griffin, Hollis Griffin and Elsie Griffin.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 13 in Staunton First Church of God, officiated by Pastor Kyle Yates. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Danny Kline, Scott Downs, Davey Kline, Kyle Downs, Dylan Downs, Jacob Griffin, Tracy Jack and Bernie Wolcott. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the L.I.F.T. women’s group of the church.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Bear Funeral Home.
