Henry Kopple

January 28, 1932 - August 28, 2023

Henry “Hank” L. Kopple, age 91, of Lahmansville, WV passed away peacefully at his home on August 28th, 2023 surrounded by his family.

Hank was born in Philadelphia on January 28th, 1932 to Bernard and Sadie Kopple. In addition to his parents Hank was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Anne Snell Kopple, and his brother Robert Kopple.

He is survived by his sister, Carol (Kopple) Shafran, sister-in-law Laura B. Kopple, four children, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Hank was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA where he graduated from Overbrook High School then worked with his father in the accounting field for several years. He went on to attend Temple University and earned his degree in education. He worked for several years teaching in the Philadelphia public schools then became a founding father of the innovative Affective Education Program during the 70’s and 80’s.

After his retirement to the farm in Lahmansville he and Anne embarked on many new adventures. They spent almost 30 years cultivating grapes for local wineries, “tried” growing chestnut trees, helped their son Mark run the farm, and instituted the infamous Barn Party! He also returned to his earliest vocation and started his accounting & tax preparation business, which he maintained until the age of 90.

Hank also served on the board of Pendleton Community Care and The Cacapon Institute, He and Anne were founding members of the Grant County Summer Arts program, and the Grant County Farmers Market. They were also active members of the Lahmansville Ruritan Club and the Grant County Democrats.

Hank’s life was full of family, travel, service and love. As his wife said many years ago…He was a good man.

As per his wishes there will be no public service.
