Helen Yager
Helen Elizabeth Yager (born Helen Elizabeth Ruffner), age 99, passed away on December 3, 2023. She was born on December 1, 1924, in Luray, VA. Helen lived a remarkable life filled with love, faith and creativity.Helen lived life on her own terms, cherishing her family above all else. She had a deep passion for her faith and dedicated herself to learning more about it. For decades, she actively participated in her church and Bible Study groups. Helen’s creative and capable nature was evident in her various talents. She was a skilled seamstress and home DIY-er, transforming every home she occupied into a showplace. She also had a green thumb and was an accomplished cook and baker. Once her children were grown, she went back to school and attained her Associates Degree, which she put to good use in her daughter Debra's CPA firm.Beyond her accomplishments, Helen’s sense of humor and sparky personality endeared her to everyone she met. Her ability to create a sense of community around herself was truly remarkable, and people were naturally drawn to her warmth and charisma.Helen is survived by her children, Debra, Chris and Dawn; her grandson, Nick; and her daughter-in-law, Janet. She was the rock that held their family together; she enriched their lives with her love and guidance, and her memory will forever be cherished by those she leaves behind.A ceremony honoring Helen's remarkable life will be held at the outdoor pavilion at Beahm's Chapel Cemetery on Thursday, December 7. Visitation will be at 1 p.m., and there will be a brief service at 2 p.m.Helen Yager will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who brought joy and laughter to those around her. Her legacy of faith, creativity, and community will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to know her.
