Helen Virginia Sorrells
Helen Virginia Sorrells, 81, of Waynesboro, passed away on Sunday, November 5th, 2023 at The Retreat in Fishersville.
Virginia was born to Dalton S. Groah and Carrie Bell (Painter) Groah on November, 29th, 1941. She worked as a mother, and for 15 years was a book keeper for Lowes Tire in Staunton. Virginia was a founding member of Fishersville Baptist church along with her parents, and attended there for her entire life. She was also a leader of the Bosom Buddies breast cancer support group.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elbert Sorrells; as well as twin daughters, Jeanie and Julie Sorrells; a brother, Charles Groah; and two sisters, Hazel Rexrode and Marie Landes.
Virginia is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Fortune with husband Tony of Fishersville, Kim Hudson with husband Mike of Grottoes; grandchildren Heather Morris with husband Eric, Justin Fortune with fiancé Ashley Gibson, Brooke Hudson with husband Conor Haines, and Haley Hudson with husband Tyler Humphreys. In addition, Virginia is survived by great-grandchildren, Lexi Fortune, Eli Fortune, Gavin Fortune Isaac Morris, Cayden Hatter and Camdyn Hatter; a sister, Becky Elrod with husband Harry of Waynesboro; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Last, but not least, Virginia is survived by her fur buddy, Ziggy.
Virginia will be remembered as a loving wife and mother who cherished her family. She liked to travel with her husband and loved spending time in her flower garden. Virginia was also a very talented bowler, who had an opportunity to go pro, but instead chose to devote her time to her family.
A service will be conducted at Fishersville Baptist church at 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 9th, 2023 with Pastor Chris Smith officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church for a time of visitation and fellowship one hour prior to the service.
A committal service will take place immediately following the funeral, at Augusta Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Mike Hudson, Eric Morris, Eli Fortune, Gavin Fortune, Justin Fortune, Chuck Groah, Cayden Hatter and Camdyn Hatter.
