Helen Marie (Shirk) Harold

Helen Marie Shirk Harold, 77, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025 at Blue Ridge Nursing Home.

Helen was born August 21, 1947 in Rockingham County to the late John Paul and Martha Ruth Knicely Shirk.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lenford Harold; infant daughter; son, Lenford Dale Harold; brothers, Ralph Shirk and Marion (Tiny) Shirk.

Before retiring, Helen worked for Martin's Native Lumber, VMRC and Hardees.

She was an avid quilt maker and loved making baby quilts for her friends.

In addition to her son, Justin Harold, she is survived by sister-in-law, Ruth Shirk; sisters, Virginia Cook, Arlene Atkins and husband Steve, Stella Knott and husband Jake; brother, Leroy Shirk and wife Pattie; adopted children she took in over the years; special nieces, Jennifer Coakley and Angela Stanley who were caregivers for Helen; and her dog, Dixie. She also has numerous other nieces and nephews.

A service celebrating Helen's life will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Spring Creek Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Billy Curry officiating. Burial to follow at Briery Branch Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Bridgewater.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help offset funeral expenses.
