With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Gordon M. Klenck, 96, of Staunton, Virginia, whose Christian testimony and exemplary life leaves behind a legacy of faith and ministry. Gordon passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, May 9, 2026. He was born on April 20, 1930, in Warren, Pennsylvania, to the late Fredrick and Edith “Luella” Klenck, from a Frisian immigrant family and descendants of the Mayflower, respectively. He married Marcia Ann Sheehan on June 20, 1964, and they had three (3) children and eight (8) grandchildren. Gordon worked 74 years, his entire life, for Campus Crusade for Christ or Cru, being the first member to join on August 14, 1952, in various roles including Campus Director, Assistant to Founder Bill Bright, Director of European Missions, and Professor of Missiology, at the International School of Theology in Arrowhead Springs, California. Before his passing, Gordon completed the first draft of A Lifetime in Christian Ministry detailing his efforts for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A devoted father and grandfather, Gordon is survived by three children, Joel Klenck, Darli Leichliter, and Dan Klenck, and eight grandchildren, Joe Klenck, Avonlea Leichliter, Hannah Klenck, Haven Leichliter, Lila Klenck, Brec Leichliter, Joy Klenck, and Sawyer Leichliter. Gordon’s funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton. The interment will follow, across the street, at Thornrose Cemetery, in Staunton. Donations may be made to Marcia A. Klenck, Gordon’s grieving widow of nearly 63 years.
