Gilbert Lewis Grylls

January 9, 1943 - September 26, 2023

Gilbert Lewis Grylls, 80, widower of Mary Margaret Grylls, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at his residence surrounded by friends, family, and beloved cat. 
Mr. Grylls was born in Central Falls, Rhode Island on January 9, 1943, son of the late Frederick Grylls and Loretta Claire (Authier) Grylls.
Gilbert was a veteran of the United States Navy and was especially proud to be a member of the Navy Seabees. He was the owner and operator of MaryGil Diner and retired as an HVAC technician. Gil was a member of VFW Staunton Post 2216 and served as Commander and also worked and called bingo for over 20 years. Friends enjoyed Gil’s wonderful sense of humor and love of music with his innate talent for playing guitar and keyboard. He had a big heart and was an extremely generous person who wouldn’t refuse to do anything for anyone. 
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Grylls is preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Ronald Grylls; and two sisters, Claire Solsberg and Diane Grylls. 
Surviving, is a daughter, Laureen Brady of Plymouth, Massachusetts; a son, Mark Grylls of Plymouth, Massachusetts; a brother, Richard Grylls; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Over the past five years, Gil was blessed to have had a companion and beloved friend, Debra, to help him through his journey. Words cannot express how thankful we are that Deb has been in our lives and has become part of our family. 
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Staunton VFW, 212 Frontier Drive, Staunton, VA 24401 with Pastor John Ward from Raphine Christian Church officiating.
Burial will be held in Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence, Rhode Island.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is handling his arrangements.
