Gilberetta Wanita (Worley) Carter

June 17, 1925 - April 1, 2025

Gilberetta Wanita (Worley) Carter, 99, widow of James Haskel Carter, of Staunton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
Mrs. Carter was born in Arnolds Valley, Rockbridge County on June 17, 1925, daughter of the late William Myers Worley and Stella Frances (Branch) Worley.
Gilberetta was a devoted member of the Lincoln Avenue Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she served as a Deacon, a member of the Board of Trustees, and an active participant in the Ladies Auxiliary. She deeply knew the Word and exemplified the essence of a Godly woman.  
Mrs. Carter dedicated many years to her career as a loom operator at James and Lee Carpet, later known as Burlington Carpet, before retiring.  
In her free time, Gilberetta found joy in solving word search puzzles and had a passion for traveling—visiting 49 out of 50 states.  
Above all, she was the glue that held her family together—the unwavering rock of their foundation.
In addition to her parents and husband of 41 years, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Haskel Carter and Philip Edward Carter; a brother, John Myers Worley; two sisters, Mavis Johnson and Connie Henson; and a grandson, Tyler Johns.
Surviving, is a son, Daniel Carter and his wife, Barbara of Staunton; two daughters-in-law, Christina and Nancy Carter; a brother, Larry Worley and his wife, Judy of Stuarts Draft; a sister, Nellie Frances Hill of Natural Bridge Station; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. 
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at their residence. 
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by her son, Mr. Daniel M. Carter. 
Burial will follow in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be James Carter, Michael W. Bosserman, Philip Carter, II, Caleb Carter, Robert Coleman, and William Cash.
It is suggested that those desiring make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
