Geraldine "Cat" Catherine Marie Smith

Geraldine Catherine Marie “Cat” Smith, 96, of Waynesboro, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025 at Augusta Health in Fishersville. 
Ms. Smith was born in Augusta County, Virginia on December 21, 1928, a daughter of the late William H. Smith and Stellarine (Carter) Smith.
Cat retired from Western State Hospital where she worked in the Food Service department for over 30 years. She was an active member of Smokey Row Baptist Church, where she held several roles, including usher, member of the Willing Workers Club, and the Busy Bees. Cat cherished family gatherings, cookouts, spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family and friends. Known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering strength, she was the cornerstone of her family. She had a deep love for her family and treasured her enduring friendships. In addition, Cat served as a devoted caregiver, always offering support to those in need.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Smith was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Smith, Sr. and William Smith, Jr.; a sister, Evelyn Crawford; a brother-in-law, John Crawford; and two sons-in-law, Dennis Younger and John D. Harper. 
Surviving, are two sons, Chester T. Smith, Sr. and his wife, Kathy and Anthony L. Smith, Sr. (Denise); two daughters, Teresa Harper and Dorothea Younger; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great-grandchildren; special friends, Joan Brown, Evelyn Stewart, Phyllis Williams, and Bill Bowman; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Michael Sims.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Hunter Cemetery in Swoope.
A repast will follow in the Smokey Row Baptist Church Social Hall.
Active pallbearers will be Demetrius Younger, Shaquille Vaughan, Isom Smith-Bryant, Tarrington Smith, David Bruce, Chester Smith, II, and Joel Smith.
It is suggested that those desiring make memorial contributions to Smokey Row Baptist Church, 831 Smokey Row Road, Staunton, VA 24401.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
