Gary Stanley Woods
Gary Stanley Woods, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away on August 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 14, 1954, in VA, to the late John Woods, and Betty (Dickey) Crowe, of Weyers Cave.
Gary spent his formative years in Mount Solon, where he developed a passion for construction and honed his skills as a dedicated brick mason. Gary's work ethic and talent allowed him to excel in his chosen profession, leaving a prominent mark on countless projects in the construction industry. In his spare time, Gary could be found in the outdoors hunting, fishing, or camping.
Family always held a special place in Gary's heart. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his cherished wife, Debra (Lambert) Woods who he married Aug. 2, 1975, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Gary was a loving and supportive father to his three children, Laurie Layman and husband, Dwight, of Churchville, Angie Wright of Waynesboro, and Shawn Woods of Mt. Solon. His role as a father extended beyond bloodlines, as he embraced his siblings, Timmy Woods, Curtis Woods and wife Lori, Darryl Woods, Pamela Woods, Melody Yankee and husband, Terry, a sister-in-law, Edith Woods, and numerous neices and nephews. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Dakota Gum, Christian Hewitt, Jamie Hewitt, Gary Logan Hewitt, Ashley Wright, Shane Wright, Laci Woods, Trenton Woods, Emma Gum, Ava Gum, Lakelynn Wright, and Brantlee Louk, were the apples of his eye, providing him with immeasurable joy and pride.
In addition to his father, Gary is preceded in death by a brother, Terry Woods; sister-in-law, Diane Woods; a special grandfather, Clarence Dickey, Sr.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 6 to 8 PM, at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Bridgewater allowing all who wish to pay their respects to join the family in honoring Gary's memory.
To celebrate Gary's remarkable life and extend our heartfelt condolences, a funeral service will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 11 AM at the funeral home. Gary will be laid to rest following the service at St. Pauls Cemetery in Weyers Cave.
